In the fall academic semester of 2023, I took the class Audio Restoration with professor Anna Frick.
In this course, I was tasked with creating an audio project of my choice that would act as a Capstone project for the program. I was allowed to do anything that I wanted, as long as audio production was involved and something tangible was created by the end of the semester.
For this project, I wanted to combine my love of audio with my biggest hobby: the Furry Fandom. During this semester, I was also taking a Podcast Production class with another professor. Additionally, in another life, I would definitely have gone to school for psychology. I think that the brain, and how individuals can converge on the same hobby or topic is incredibly interesting to me. I also think that each person on Earth has an individual view-point set of morals which should be heard and documented for anyone to hear. With all of this put together, I wanted to create a series outlining the furry experience in modern society. Why did we all decide to create anthropomorphic characters that describe us? How has the furry fandom stayed the same or changed over time? Where do we think that the fandom is headed? What is the point of it all?
For the school part of this project, I recorded a three episode podcast series about different aspects of the Furry Fandom. Each episode had questions that were tailored to each individual with the intent to answer one question: “Why did you become a Furry?” After the course concluded and I graduated, I continued this project to where it is today.
All episodes were recorded, mixed, and mastered all in Pro Tools before final delivery at the end of the semester. The podcast was also uploaded to Spotify.
